Wind is a form of solar energy, which happens when the sun heats the atmosphere in uneven levels of force, which cause some patches to become warmer than others. The warm patches rise slowly, while cooler air blows in to replace them. When it’s harnessed correctly, this wind flow can be used to generate electricity. In ancient times, people used the wind to pump water for sailing boats, watering crops and grind corn (which is where the term “windmill” comes from).
A few centuries later, the wind turbines were invented and wind energy companies started to produce substitute energy from the wind. In general, a wind turbine produces energy by capturing the wind. At the top of the turbine placed a big rotor, build from three large propeller blades. The wind makes the rotor spin and the spinning blades give power to a generator which makes energy. Just like with solar energy, the energy is converted into electricity. The turbines consist with a brake mechanism to keep the blades from turning too fast in case of strong winds.
For a wind turbine to work in full efficiently, the wind speed should be above 12 miles per hour. A lower speed will not be enough to turn the turbines and generate electricity. A single turbine can produce 50 to 300 kilowatts of electricity. Luckily, wind energy is a free and renewable resource, and it will always be available in the future. Since they do not run on fuel, wind turbines costs are very low when compared to the traditional electricity generating technologies.

As a clean energy source, we can rely on wind energy to be here in the future. A wind turbine creates cost effective, pollution free, reliable energy. One wind turbine can generate enough energy for an entire household. Wind turbines create power without using fossil fuels, without producing greenhouse gases or radioactive or toxic waste, so they help in reducing the global warming.
